Eye Exercises
By Nancy Aagenes, ND (with due credit to the Ayurvedic doctors who taught me this.)
Fixing the position of the eyes , stretching and holding in these positions:
- Strengthens the muscles that control the eye ball
- Accesses different states of information and consciousness
- Improves vision
- Relaxes the eyes and the musculoskeletal system.
For each position hold 15 to 30 seconds. Relax gaze softly to a horizon. Hold again for 15 to 30 seconds. Relax gaze again before doing next position. Note what kind of brain activity is accessed by that position of the eye.
- Look to left and up (visual memory).
- Look to left and down (auditory memory).
- Look to right and up (creative memory).
- Look to right and down (olfactory memory).
- Look to right, horizontally (music and sound).
- Look to left, horizontally .
- Look to end of nose (smell).
- Look to root of tongue (taste)
- Look up and in to space between eyebrows (opens intuition).
Again hold each position for 15 to 30 seconds, relax gaze softly, hold again for 15 to 30 seconds, and end with relaxing the gaze.
We register different brain wave patterns for everything we see. Sensory input can change body chemistry in less than a second. Whether or not these changes are immediately apparent, they are fun to explore. These exercises come from Ayruvedic medicine, the oldest recorded medicine on the planet.
Color enhancement exercises: 1) Look at the son with eyes closed for 15 to 30 seconds. 2) Massage the eyeballs for 20 to 30 seconds looking away from sun. Repeat.
Vision correction exercises : Focusing: Look at an object close to you, then a distant object. Look at your hand six inches away and then at the horizon. Do this 15 times.
Distant reading and close reading: Put a favorite poem or prayer on the wall. Stand as far back as you can read it. Stand as close as you can and read it. Overtime notice if you can increase the distance range at which you can read. |
